High-flying climate protesters spark major gridlock at Port Botany

Climate protesters have suspended themselves nine metres above Sydney’s shipping hub in Port Botany grinding trucks to a standstill.

Police were called to Bumborah Point Road near the intersection of Friendship Road, Port Botany around 6.20am on Monday morning following reports a group had gathered in the area.

Traffxjmtzywic has banked up around the entire nine kilometre radius of the ports and heavy vehicles are being urged to continue along Bunnerong Road.

Superintendent Tim Beattie of the NSW Police spoke with 2GB at 7.40am that only one man remains suspended above the port.

The protester, identified as 23-year-old Tom has gone live on Facebook from his vantage point above the ports.

Police Rescue teams can be seen in the video assessing the situation and working on the ropes being used to suspend the protester from a pole.
