Queensland police have charged a man with the murder of an elderly woman who was found dead in a house on the Gold Coast.
The 50-year-old man was restrained at the scene.
Police were called to the Molendinarxjmtzyw property, located north of the Gold Coast, around 8.40pm on Sunday night.
They discovered the body of Susan Walker, 74, with significant head injuries.
The “sudden death” is not believed to be domestic violence-related.
Gold Coast police Acting Chief Superintendent Rhys Wildman said police had not yet recovered a weapon.
“This is a tragic incident in which a 74-year-old woman has lost her life, so we have to be respectful of not only her, but also the family,” he said.
“We’re speaking to a number of witnesses to ascertain who exactly was staying at the address in recent weeks,”
Tributes flowed on social media for the 74-year-old.
“My neighbour. Very sad, she was a very giving woman,” one woman wrote on Facebook.
“All this senseless violence is just disheartening,” another user wrote.
The man is due to face Southport Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon.
Police are still presently processing the crime scene.
