Homicide squad Investigators searched the Sylvania home of Newtown boarding house owner Albert Wong on Wednesday night.
Police had previously reported being unable to contact the Malaysian-born owner of the boarding house that exploded into flames in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A police spokesman confirmed that Strike Force Tutt investigators searched Mr Wong’s Sylvania home around 6.45pm on Wednesday.
He is not facing any charges.
They seized documentation and electronic devices for forensic examination – though it is unknown if Mr Wong was at home when the search occurred.
Emergency services continue to clear debris from the scene of the fatal fire where at least two bodies remain unidentified.
Court documents state that a body retrieved from the home on Wednesday is believed to be resident Pankaj Kumar.
Police have found two more bodies inside the collapsed building but have been unable to retrieve them due to significant structural damage, including part of the second storey collapsing into the ground floor.
There were at least 11 residents inside the building when the blaze began and police have confirmed on Thursday afternoon that one man’s whereabouts remain unaccounted for.
Police are concerned that the missing man may be among the ruins of the fire-damaged home.
Beloved by locals, 80-year-old resident, Ronald Serich remains in a critical condition at Royal North Shore Hospital after jumping from his second storey room.
Police have reported that Mr Serich, known to most as Ronnie, suffered a heart attack upon arriving at the hospital and was treated for serious leg injuries incurred during his dangerous escape.
Another two men – whose identities remain unknown – were admitted to hospital on Tuesday and one has since been released.
The man accused of starting the fire that claimed the lives of three residents has chosen not to apply for bail in court.
Richard Hotoran, 45, was charged with three counts of murder on Tuesday night after neighbours woke about 1am that morning to the sounds of explosions.
Mr Hotoran did not apply for bail and will be held in remand until his next court date in May.
