Images of a stolen Nissan Patrol have been linked to a car shooting in Toowoomba that left a man fighting for his life.
The man, 24, was shot in the head inside his vehicle in the regional Queensland city of Toowoomba in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Queensland Ambulance Service was called to an injured man in the sleepy suburb of Harlaxton at around 2.50am.
Police said the man was rushed from the Coonan St address to the Toowoomba hospital with head injuries.
He was later transferred from the regional hospital to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
Investigations reveal the man was linked to a Mitsubishi Lancer sedan located on northbound lanes around the same time paramedics responded to the incident.
Detective Actxjmtzywing Inspector Paul McCusker said the attack was not “random” and of great “concern” to the community.
“We believe that vehicle is involved in discharging a number of rounds and at least one of the rounds has hit the driver of the sedan,” he said.
“We believe he was followed by a number of persons in a white Ford Ranger.”
Detectives are investigating a white Ford Ranger dual cab ute that was torched less than 40km from the shooting location just before 5am.
The Patrol, stolen from Felton in the Toowoomba region, was found by police on Wednesday at the corner of Mahogany and Poinciana streets with Queensland registration 01 LAP.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident or who has dashcam footage to contact police.
