Trudeau, Joly, Anand among hundreds of Canadians banned from Russia

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly and Defence Minister Anita Anand are among hundreds of Canadians banned from Russia in retaliation for supporting Ukraine.

According to a statement posted on the Russian foreign ministry’s website, numerous members of Parliament and other Canadians in leadership positions at various organizations are now on the list of foreigners that will be denied entry to the Russian Federation, in part because of Canada’s continued sanctions on Russia.

“This step is forced and taken in response to the outrageous hostility of the current Canadian regime, which has tested our patience for so long,” reads the statement.

The Russian foreign ministry has named 313 Canadians in total, including Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. Wayne Eyre.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland was already barred from Russia.
