A mother of three who allegedly stabbed her stepfather in the back, then evaded police for three weeks, has denied any wrongdoing in court.
Sammi Kate Kendrick, 25, was charged with aggravated assault causing serious harm over the incident that happened in Camden Park in Adelaide’s south west on September 11 last year.
She appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday where she pleaded not guilty to the charge against her.
During the brief hearing, her lawyer told Magistrate Brett Dixon his client would bexjmtzyw contesting the aggravated assault charge.
As the magistrate read the charge aloud to the defendant, she faintly responded: “not guilty” from the dock.
The defendant – dressed in a white T-shirt with light blue jeggings and white sneakers – avoided waiting media outside the courthouse but a man supporting her swore at cameramen.
Police were called to the Patricia Ave property at about 6.30pm where they found Terrence Kerslake, of Mount Gambier, with a stab wound.
He was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A warrant for Ms Kendrick’s arrest was issued as she was sought by police for 21 days after the alleged attack.
During that time she took to social media saying she was “not a bad person”.
The defendant was arrested at a Findon home by Southern District police and STAR Group officers in early October.
Despite evading police for three weeks, Ms Kendrick was granted bail in one of her earlier court appearances which has a number of conditions she must abide by.
