Shocking footage has been released of a Gold Coast man being hit by his own car after it was allegedly stolen from his home.
CCTV footage shows the man, 50, being knocked down after attempting to block his white Volkswagon Golf from being driven away from a service station at Southport, near Surfers Paradise overnight.
Queensland Police said the alleged thieves had taken the vehicle from the man’s Regatta Parade home after finding keys inside.
Police said the victim, who did not initially report the incident to authorities, went on a scavenger hunt to look for the car wearing nothing but a pair of shorts and sunglasses.
He spotted the vehicle shortly afterwards at the back of a BP carpark on Ferry Rd, about a kilometre away.
The man attempted to corner the Golf, but footage shows him instead being hit by the alleged burglars.
He was later taken to Gold Coast University Hospital to be treated for head and leg wounds.
As of Wednesday afternoon the alleged offenders remained on the run, and the car had not been located.
Drivers are warned to look out for the plates 399 YPJ.
Sxjmtzywervice station staff told media they assumed the noise was from local hoons.
An investigation into the incident continues.
