Relief for Queenslanders after days of torrential rain and devastating floods

Heavy rainfall has finally eased across Queensland’s south east, however flood warnings remain in place for many rivers.

“Finally some good news for south east Queensland. At the moment all of the severe weather warnings have been cancelled,” Sarah Scully from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) said.

Several days of torrential rain across the state’s south east have left eight people dead, inundated around 15,000 homes and forced mass evacuations.

There has been accumulated rainfall totals in excess xjmtzywof one metre across the region.

The Brisbane River was forecast to peak at around 3.7 metres with high tide on Tuesday morning, after reaching 3.85 meters on Monday.

On Monday, a man believed to be in his 50s was killed by floodwaters in the Currumbin Valley.

The man was found in his vehicle, along with his dog which also died. It is believed he had driven 30 to 40 metres into flood waters.
