The e-scooter riders captured in a video being continually swerved at by a car say they’re lucky to have not been killed.
Asad Syed and Richard Fatileh were with two other friends at St Kilda Rd in Melbourne on Sunday evening when the chaos unfolded.
Both men say they are unsure what prompted the driver’s behaviour.
“I heard a car revving behind me,” Mr Fatileh told
“I looked back and seen (sic) a bit of funny business going on. I just threw the scooter and I yelled out to my mates, ‘Watch out’.”
The identity of the driver of the wayward yellow Ford remains unknown.
Police believe there may have been a verbal altercation between the riders and a mystery woman who was picked up by the driver of the car.
However, the men dispute this and claim they were the targets of a random attack.
“If the car hit us, someone would have died or been seriously hurt,” Mr Syed told
“They (the driver) didn’t want to deal with the situation like a real person would … just ran off like a coward.”
In the clip, the men retaliate after the car swerves at them.
“Get out of your car you f—ing dog,” one said.
As the group continued to yell the driver continues their erratic spree up and down the road.
Police said they attended the scene on Sunday evening but no one was injured in the incident.
“It is understood four people were riding electric scooters along St Kilda Rd when they had a verbal exchange with an unknown female pedestrian about 10.40pm,” a police statement said.
“The woman was picked up by a yellow Ford and the unknown driver began chasing after the four scooter riders.
“Police attended and attempted to speak with the four riders but they refused to provide statements.
“The scooter riders are also being investigated for riding the vehicles in a 60km/h zone.”
