Victorian Liberal leader Matthew Guy and four colleagues have been hit with fines for failing to wear masks inside parliament during a speech by Essendon football great Kevin Sheedy.
Mr Guy, along with Liberal treasury spokesman David Davis, Nationals leader Peter Walsh, Liberal MP Gary Blackwood and Nationals MP Melina Bath have been fined by Victoria Police for failing to wear masks indoors.
Photos of a number of maskless Victorian Liberal MPs inside parliament during a motivational speech by Mr Sheedy on February 8 were shared freely on Facebook by several politicians.
Under current Victorian rules, masks must be worn in all indoor settings for those aged eight and above.
Mr Guy released a statement on Monday confirming he and four coalxjmtzywition colleagues have been fined.
“As previously stated, at all times the Victorian Liberals and Nationals co-operated with Victoria Police in relation to this matter and accordingly the fines will be paid promptly,” Mr Guy said in the statement.
“The Victorian Liberals and Nationals will continue to advocate for the removal of face mask mandates in low risk settings, so we can begin to recover, rebuild and move forward.”
It comes after Victoria Police issued two fines to Premier Daniel Andrews last October totalling $400 for failing to wear a mask twice outside Parliament House.
Mr Guy at the time slammed Mr Andrews, saying he must face “the full force of the law” if he did not have a valid reason.
