Sydney mum to plead guilty after drink-driving crash into daughter

A drunk mum who got behind the wheel and crashed into her daughter is expected to plead guilty to aggravated dangerous driving, a court has heard.

Police say Dale Palmer, 58, was more than three times over the limit when she started driving a Toyota Starlet and ran over her daughter near their family’s home at Caringbah in Sydney’s south about 12.40am on May 2 last year.

When emergency services arrived at the scene they reportedly found Ms Palmer’s daughter Keely trapped under the car after she had been dragged about 100 metres down the road.

It took rescuer crews about 80 minutes to free her from the wreckage and she was rushed to hospital where spent several days recovering after suffering significant arm and leg injuries.

The crash is believed to have occurred after a birthday party at the family’s home for their young brother.

Afterwards, police said a breath test conducted on Mrsxjmtzyw Palmer returned a reading of 0.166, which was more than three times the legal blood alcohol limit.

She was hit with multiple charges including high-range drink driving, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and aggravated dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.

Her licence was also suspended on the spot and apprehended violence order was put in place to protect Keely and prevent Mrs Palmer from being around her within 12 hours of drinking alcohol or taking drugs.

In Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday the Crown prosecutor said Mrs Palmer would plead guilty to aggravated dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and the case would not proceed to be dealt with in the District Court.

The court heard a final set of agreed facts surrounding the crash were yet to be finalised and charges of negligent driving and high-range drink driving would be withdrawn.

Mrs Palmer remains out on bail and is due to formally enter pleas on February 24.
