A Sydney man has been charged after he travelled more than 200km and allegedly sexually assaulted a teenage girl that he met on Snapchat.
Officers from the Hunter child abuse unit began an investigation in January after receiving reports a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the NSW xjmtzywHunter Region.
The girl told police she was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man she met on Snapchat.
Police were told the pair engaged in conversations and exchanged photos and personal details before making plans to meet in person.
The 37-year-old man travelled about 207km from Sydney’s southwest to Newcastle and allegedly sexually assaulted the girl before driving home.
Police allege the man gave the young girl vapes after he allegedly had sex with her.
The man was arrested in Campbelltown at about 7am on Tuesday.
Footage shows police arriving at a Campbelltown home and handcuffing the man.
He is then led away from the property wearing brown pants, a black T-shirt and in handcuffs.
Police conducted a search warrant and seized a Nissan X-Trail and electronic items, which will undergo forensic examination.
The man was taken to Campbelltown police station and charged with one count of have sexual intercourse with child 14-16 years of age.
The 37-year-old was refused bail and is due to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Tuesday.
The child abuse and sex crimes squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse and extreme cases of neglect.
