A naked man seen performing an indecent act while behind the wheel in Sydney is being hunted by police.
The man was spotted touching himself while driving along Parramatta Road in Lidcombe on January 13.
He is described as being of caucasian appearance, with short hair and glasses, driving a white Volkswagen sedan with black detailing. One headlight was not working.
Police were contacted shortly after the offence by disturbed motorists and launched an investigation.
In NSW it is illegal to wilfully expose yourself while in view of a public place, which Ahmad Faraj from Criminal Defence Lawyers Australia said would include driving on a busy road.
“They don’t have to prove that someone actually saw your private parts they just have to prove that the person could be seen doing the act,” Mr Faraj told NCA NewsWire.
Given the man was driving at the time, the incident could also result in a traffic offence.
“Their attention is taken away, they’ve only got one hand on the wheel when you’re supposed to really have two,” Mr Faraj said.
A similar recent case in which the vehicle was parked resulted in the offender being charged with obscene exposure and given an $1100 dollar fine.
On Tuesday, police charged another man with wilful and obscene exposure after he entered an Edgecliff petrol station wearing nothing but thongs and sunglasses.
CCTV footage of the incident showed the 48-year-old man casually walking into the servo to pay for his petrol.
Staff and other customers in the petrol station appeared relatively undisturbed by the brazen act and were reportedly more concerned with him not wearing a mask.
