Two people are in hospital after a freak bolt of lightning sparked a house fire at Bundoora, in Melbourne’s north.
The chaos took place at a home on Betula Ave and fire crews arrived shortly after 8am.
Flames quickly engulfed the single storey property with 40 per cent “significantly damaged” in the blaze.
“Multiple triple-0 calls were received to alert FRV to a house struck by lightning in Bundoora this morning,” Fire Rescue Victoria said in a statement.
“Fire trucks arrived on scene to find the roof of the single-storey brick veneer home well-involved in fire and threatening an adjacent property.”
However, firefighters were able to stop it spreading to an adjoining building.
All three residents evacuated the house themselves and weretransported to hospital by Ambulance.
More than two dozen firefighters were needed to control the blaze and specialist investigators confirmed a lightning strike was the cause.
