Queensland: Disturbing footage of youth gang violence

Horrific footage of Queensland teenagers being attacked by alleged youth gangs has been filmed and shared on social media.

Clips of two disturbing attacks which took place in the Brisbane bayside suburb of Wynnum – during the school holidays last week – were uploaded on the attackers’ social media account.

In the most recent footage, offenders can be seen violently punching and stomping on a girl’s head in broad daylight.

The girl was allegedly lured by a group to the Wynnum CBD, when another girl repeatedly punched and kicked her in the head before a bystander intervened.

The alleged group, which has been outed by local residents under various names, including “Dub C” and “4178”, which is the suburb’s postcode, has been allegedly targeting streets in the area over the past two years.

The first attack caught on tape was of a boy, who was confronted by two other teenagers, before being punched and screamed at on a train at Wynnum on April 12.

The boy can be heard screaming and crying while he tried to escape.

The recent videos are part of a series of more than 20 attacks shared on social media in the past year.

The mother of the teenage girl said her daughter was set up by a group of boys who allegedly got a another girl to carry out their devious deed, which was not reported to police.

“It was awful to get the phone call of my girl gasping for air because she was crying that someone had hurt her,” she said.

“As she got hit to the ground, she looked up and seen all her friends laughing and filming, so she knew not to fight back because they will all jump in, as she has witnessed in their other videos.”

In an effort to avoid the group, parents in the area have reportedly been keeping their kids at home from school and refusing to go shopping with them.

Queensland Opposition Leader David Crisafulli labelled the violent footage by the Wynnum teens as “troubling”.

“It is troubling, it is unsettling, it is anarchy,” he said.

“Youth crime is out of control in this state.”

Detectives from the Wynnum Child Protection Investigation Unit are currently investigating youth-related offences in the area.

“Given importance young people place on social media and the reach of such platforms, the issue of offences being filmed and subsequently shared is not unique to any specific area of Queensland.” they said.

“Police investigate all complaints as soon as possible under the scope of the criminal code and Youth Justice Act.”

A Queensland Police spokesman said violence is taken very seriously by police and anyone who witnesses criminal activity or who is a victim should contact police.

The Police Railway Squad is also believed to be investigating the incidents.
