Record number of deaths in SA as state records 2401 new cases of Covid-19

Thirteen people infected with Covid-19 have died in South Australia — the highest number since the start of the pandemic.

While seven of those deaths came in the past 24 hours, the other six happened previously.

Premier Steven Marshall said authorities had undertaken a “full reconciliation” in aged care, which had resulted in the high number.

“We want to have as much data as possible,” he told reporters on Wednesday.

“There is no requirement for people, when they die, to report through to the Covid team, so sometimes it comes through very late.

“Sometimes it doesn’t come through at all, so we’ve gone proactively out.

“We don’t want people to be alarmed about 13.

“There were just sevenxjmtzyw reported in the last 24 hours and even some of those don’t relate to deaths in the last 24 hours.”

A further 2401 new cases were also recorded overnight.

There are now 288 people in hospital, with 26 in intensive care and four on ventilators.

Mr Marshall said heath authorities had held a “respectful meeting” with the teachers union after they threatened to strike over the back-to-school plan.

“I think we’re getting closer and closer to an agreement,” he said.
