Nathan Sobey’s Olympic bronze medal has been returned to him more than a month after it was stolen from his home.
In late February, the Aussie basketball star appealed for the public’s help relocating the medal, which he won playing for the Boomers at the Tokyo Olympics last year.
The medal was stolen during a Brisbane Bullets game, but on Friday morning Sobey took to Instagram to reveal it had been returned to him.
While the medal is no longer in mint condition, Sobey thanked his followers for their help relocating it.
“Look who made it back home!!!” Sobey wrote.
“Just want to thank everyone for all their help in getting my medal back to me!! I truly do believe that with everyone’s help, it encouraged whoever took it to hand it back into someone who then got into contact with me. So again, thank you!!!!
“Unfortunately it is not in the same state as it was when it was taken and as expected, it has been mistreated while it was in this persons hands. But with all that being said, I am still super happy that it is back where it belongs.”
Nathan Sobey's stolen bronze medal returned to him
Sobey is recovering from the knee injury that has hampered his NBL season.
The Bullets are no longer in finals contention and hope that by resting their star player for the remainder of the season, he will return in peak physical condition.
“Having a player of Sobey’s calibre sidelined has been challenging for us and we’ve missed him on the court,” Bullets head coach James Duncan said.“While he hasn’t been out there, Sobey has been determined to contribute to the team and has had a strong presence in the locker room. “Sobey’s health is No.1 and we’ll do everything we can to get him back on the court for NBL23.”
The Bullets play the Illawarra Hawks on Saturday afternoon.
