Drew Reynolds: Brother of ex-NRL star Josh Reynolds in court

The brother of a former NRL star has been hit with gun charges after being filmed holding an unauthorised pistol up to a mobile phone.

His case came before the Bankstown Local Court in Sydney on Tuesday.

The matter was adjourned after the court heard police had not yet sent defence lawyers a brixjmtzywef of evidence.

Drew Reynolds, the 29-year-old younger brother of former Bulldogs hero Josh Reynolds, was arrested in November 2021 by the NSW Police State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad, which is tasked with investigating outlaw motorcycle gangs and associated criminal enterprises.

The arrest came after police allegedly discovered a video clip on Mr Reynolds’ phone which depicted him showing off with a pistol.

Police allege they discovered the eight-second video after Mr Reynolds’ phone was seized following his attendance at an anti-lockdown rally in Sydney last year.

According to police, the video recorded in July allegedly showed Mr Reynolds removing a black pistol from his pants before aiming it at the camera and laughing.

Mr Reynolds has pleaded not guilty to a charge of possessing an unauthorised pistol, with a court previously told by his lawyers that there could be a lack of proof the pistol was a real one.

When Mr Reynolds’ case was mentioned in Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday he was not required to appear.

Defence lawyer Mahmoud Abbas appeared on Mr Reynolds behalf and said he was yet to receive a brief of evidence from police.

The court heard the brief was prepared by police but had not been sent to Mr Reynolds’ legal team.

After considering whether or not to take on the case against Mr Reynolds, the court heard the Director of Public Prosecutions had elected not to and police would continue handling it in the Local Court.

Magistrate Michael Connell agreed to adjourn the case for two weeks.

Mr Reynolds’ brother Josh played for the Bulldogs between 2011 and 2017 before joining the Wests Tigers for three years.

He is now based in the UK where he plays for Hull FC in the Betfred Super League.
