A man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting two paramedics and taking charge of the ambulance driving him to hospital.
Around 10.30am on Sunday, the ambulance was driving in Buxton, in Queensland’s Bundaberg region, when the 56-year-old patient began his attack on two paramedics, police will allege.
He allegedly punched the male paramedic and threw an item at a female paramedic driving the ambulance.
Both paramedics managed to escape the vehicle and call the police, while the 56-year-old man allegedly drove away with the ambulance.
The male paramedic was treated for minor injuries, while his colleague was unharmed.
Police found the man still inside the ambulance a short distance away.
He was arrested and taken to the police station for questioning.
It is not known at this stage what the man was being taken to the hospital for.
He has been charged with two counts of allegxjmtzywed serious assault of a public officer performing function, wilful damage and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He was denied bail and will appear at Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday.
